3rd Cohort of The National HR Mentorship Takes Off.

The HR Certification Centre welcomed 181 mentees into the 3rd Cohort of the National HR Mentorship on Saturday, 14th January 2023 with an Orientation Ceremony. Mentees were from various industries including education, banking & finance, professional services, and insurance among others across Ghana.

The Training Coordinator of the HR Certification Centre, Mr. Frank Annan, in his welcome address charged mentees to invest in their professional growth to secure a better future. He said, “there is no good future waiting for anyone, it is about direction, choice, and power”.

“The age bracket for executive managers is between 34 to 39 years in most modern companies”, Dr. Bassey, the Executive Director of the HR Certification Centre, opined in his speech as he encouraged the mentees to aim higher as young practitioners growing in the corporate space. He said the mentorship program has been designed to expose the mentees to occurrences and standard practices through experienced practitioners who will serve as mentors to them. “Experience used to be associated with time but now I believe experience is the occurrence and reaction to events, not duration”, said Dr. Jeff Bassey.

“It’s a privilege to have a guide in your career, especially in HR, because about 40% of what you do are not in textbooks, so you leverage on what your mentors and colleagues expose you to”, Mrs. Yvonne Wiredu-Akpabli, an HR Expert, told the mentees in her speech on behalf of the mentors.

Daniel Mintah, the best mentee for Cohort 2, and Emefa Agbedor, a participant of Cohort 1 HR Mentorship, shared their experiences and charged mentees to fully participate in the program to get the best out of it.

Mentees at the orientation also expressed great excitement and enthusiasm to be part of the 3rd Cohort of the National HR Mentorship. Sekyibea Nana Ama, a student of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), was ecstatic about this opportunity. She believes it will help her carve her profession as an HR practitioner since she is now a student. Another mentee at the entry level of her HR practice, Amudalat Abubakar, believes that the mentorship program will help her garner the necessary skills to progress in the HR profession.

The National HR Mentorship is a free mentorship program for HR practitioners at the entry or mid-level of their HR career. It is a 3-month virtual engagement that runs every quarter for a year.
