Enabling Future HR Leaders: Orientation for Cohort 7 of the National HR Mentorship Programme

On January 13, 2024, the HR Certification Centre hosted the National HR Mentorship Cohort 7 Orientation at the National Banking College. This highly anticipated event, renowned for its excellence in Human Resources, saw 215 mentees apply and 100 mentees were enlisted. The atmosphere at the National Banking College where the event was held was characterised by enthusiasm, eagerness, and a collective commitment to personal and professional growth.


Mr. Frank Annan, Training Manager, briefly summarised the gathering’s purpose, tracing its inception on July 9, 2022. Originally spanning six months, the mentorship program was later streamlined to three months, featuring ten modules every Wednesday over 12 weeks. This revised structure enhances the learning experience, arming mentees with essential knowledge for success in their HR careers.


Each mentee received congratulations for securing a spot in the National HR Mentorship Programme and choosing the HR Certification Centre for ongoing learning. The official induction into the College of Mentees marked the commencement of a journey promising growth, support, and networking opportunities.


The  Executive Director of the HR Certification Centre, Pearl Amoah Amponsah, delivered an inspiring speech to mentees, emphasising the importance of perseverance, resilience, and adaptability in their HR careers. She highlighted the dynamic nature of the field and stressed their pivotal role in the organisation’s success. Encouraging them to utilise the Mentorship program for both technical skill enhancement and agility development, she concluded by wishing them the best and reminding them that “success is a journey, not a destination.”


The guest speaker, Yvonne Wiredu-Akpabli, the HR Practitioner of the year 2023 at the HR Professionals Summit & Awards delivered a stirring speech that was one of the event’s highlights. Speaking on the theme, HR and the Future of Work, She passionately encouraged mentees to cultivate adaptability, embrace continuous learning, and be change catalysts in their organisations. She ended her speech highlighting and encouraging the mentees to have a growth mindset, seek feedback and reflect, network and above all prioritise selfcare and have a mindset that change is inevitable.


Nana Akua Adubea Obeng, an HR Business Partner at an Oil and Gas Company and a member of the college of mentors for the Mentorship Programme  accepted the call to mentor the participants on behalf of the mentors and in response Theresa Sonia Billong a mentee of the cohort 7 spoke on behalf of all the mentees expressing their heartfelt gratitude and the privilege given. She said as mentees, they will seize the opportunity not only for their personal development but to also shape the future of the HR profession in Ghana and beyond.


The closing remarks were made by Frank Annan, Training Manager of the HR Certification Centre. He revealed the mentees tools kit and schedule will be shared to guide their 12-week journey. As the event came to a close, the mentees took photographs and networked, fostering a sense of camaraderie that would undoubtedly grow throughout their mentorship journey.
