HATCHING HR: FROM NOVICE TO NOTICED

Last Friday marked the maiden edition of the National HR Mentorship Convocation bringing all past mentees together under one roof and featuring inspiring speakers who shared their expertise on personal and professional growth. From crafting compelling CVs and navigating the career web to building a robust career brand, where each presentation left a lasting impression. Here’s a recap of the key insights worth noting.

Kicking off the summit, Dr Yaw Perbi delivered a thought-provoking keynote address on the theme "Hatching HR: FROM NOVICE TO NOTICED ." Drawing inspiration from C.S. Lewis, he painted a compelling vision of nurturing novices into respected professionals. His address emphasised people as valuable individuals rather than mere tools, the journey of Growth, and the core elements of transformation which include Purpose, Process, Potential, Practice, Performance, and Prize in achieving transformation. He also touched on Holistic Growth where he introduced the framework of the head, heart, and hands, emphasizing a balanced approach to personal and career development. He concluded with wisdom from Jason Jaggard, stressing the need for a meta-transformation to elevate performance levels.

Following Dr. Perbi, Lydia Quayson Adjei offered practical guidance on crafting an exceptional CV. She shared Mahatma Gandhi’s poignant reminder: “The future depends on what we do in the present,” underscoring the importance of putting in the effort early on the 
ESA(Experience, Skills and Academic) Framework, Privacy Matters, Organized Layout and approach to questions on Salary Expectations.

The second Presentation was delivered by Gabriel King Apkalu on Navigating the Career Web 
where he presented a three-stage model for career growth on Career Entry, Career Progression and Career Actualization that resonated with many attendees.
He also noted that “Success comes with sacrifices, struggles, and shortcomings,” quoting Felix Akpabli to stress the importance of persistence in one’s journey.

Caleb Kudah inspired the audience with strategies to stand out professionally. His insights included prioritizing the interests of others in your endeavours, building Competence and Character and striving for Excellence inspired by Dr. Jeff Bassay’s quote, “Ambition is the seed of greater accomplishments,” he encouraged attendees to pursue excellence through dedicated service.
 The event was crowned with a celebration of the milestones achieved by the past mentees, with certificates awarded and the dedication of our mentors to raising emerging HR leaders recognized and honoured.

The insights shared during the Convocation, including the networking opportunities and mentor-mentee engagements, provided a roadmap for personal development and professional excellence.
